VETTING AND BARRING SCHEME (VBS) Update
Information Released 15th June 2010
On 15th June 2010 The Government’s Vetting and Barring Scheme was halted just days before it was due to become fully operational and now the scheme will be “remodelled” although it is not known how or when this will be achieved.
The outcome of this sudden change means there will not now be a requirement for persons working with Children and/or Vulnerable Adults to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) although it is still incumbent for organisations employing individuals in those positions to apply for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure.
The definitions of ‘Regulated Activity’, ‘Children’ and ‘Vulnerable Adults’ remain unchanged in respect of applying for a CRB Disclosure.
The ‘New’ CRB application form will still be brought into service as from 26th July 2010 although many sections will not now be applicable.
Please see http://www.isa-gov.org.uk/ for further up-to-date information.
